Fursuit Dance Competition

Fursuit Dance Competition is a well-practiced and promoted event collectively amongst the furry fandom. The event focuses on making a space for fursuiters to create and show off a choreography (or freestyle) performance to music of their choice. Main event judges will score each dancer. In the end, the top three winners (and possibly an honorable mention) will be announced and celebrated! So bring your best game!

For all who wish to compete, you must sign up and submit necessary information. Tryouts will be in person prior to the event. Be on time! Each competitor’s main event routines can be up to 2 minutes long (120 seconds), but understand that only the first minute of their routine will be judged at tryouts. This will be a fursuit event, so appropriate clothing is required.

Prerequisites

You must abide by all convention policies and have your own, active convention membership (badge) on the day of the event.

Contestants under 16 must have parental permission and a parent in attendance for the event.

Parental Disclaimer: The organizers of this event aim for a “PG-13” rating and want you to know that this is a competitive dance event. However, we forbid any explicit/profane behavior or clothing and encourage good sportsmanship as well as a supportive environment for the participants.

Rules

  1. Event sign up deadline is Sunday, September 13th @ 11:59 pm!
  2. SHOW ON TIME! This includes prelims and sound check 45-60 min prior to the event.
  3. All competitors must have a convention badge.
  4. Please do not jump on and off the stage.
  5. Make sure your routine does not exceed 2 minutes. The music will fade out beyond this time.
  6. Make sure your music is appropriate and properly censored (find the clean version). All songs will be pre-listened to by the event coordinator. Songs not cleared will NOT be permitted to perform.
  7. Make sure you adhere to attire requirements.
  8. STAY HYDRATED. STAY HEALTHY! This is priority #1.
  9. Please be respectful of fellow competitors and the audience. This event is PG-13. If you see anything of concern, report it immediately.
  10. All Props must be cleared by the dance coordinator prior to their use.

Attire

You must dance in a suit for both prelims and main event, should you make it in. You may dance in your full suit or partial suit. Partial means you must have a fursuit head, paws, and footpaws. Tails are optional. Dress appropriately and comfortably! Remember, it's a PG-13 related event. There may be minors and families present!

Music

Competitors will upload mixes, up to 120 seconds long, by file to Google Drive for submission prior to the event tryouts. Please ensure your music is appropriate and properly censored (find the clean version). All songs will be pre-listened to by the event coordinator. Songs not cleared will NOT be permitted to perform.

Songs must follow the PG-13 rating to be played on stage. Specifically:

  • No profanity.
  • No racial slurs or overly graphic sexual references.

Judging Categories

While this is subject to change, the general judging criteria for the dancers are as follows:

  • Execution and cleanliness. Are you on beat? Are your movements clean?
  • Performance originality.
  • Movement diversity and complexity.
  • Traveling/stage presence. Are you engaging all of the crowd?
  • Synchronization (for groups).

Disclaimer

  1. By signing up for Dance Comp, you agree to be solely responsible for any injuries that may occur during the event. You also agree to not hold this event and the respective convention in which the event takes place accountable for any reimbursement for damages.
  2. By participating in Dance Comp, you agree to consent being a part of any media coverage or promotional material that includes Dance Comp. There are many of those who like to take videos and livestream the event, and you must be aware that you can/will be video recorded. Dance Comp will maintain all respect towards sensitive material. All disputes regarding sensitive or inappropriate material will be dealt with by the group directly, with the exception of material released by other parties.
  3. By participating in Dance Comp, you agree to behave in a manner that conforms to all rules set by the Dance Comp Rules, Terms and Conditions document, ASC’s Code of Conduct, and all applicable policies relevant to the event. We wish to maintain a positive image of our community - so please treat others and the event with respect. Any belligerent, dangerous, or disrespectful behavior may result in disqualification from the event as well as further repercussion at the discretion of the convention organizers.
